About Us

Building on a rich history, culture, and reputation, we focus on guiding the development of "at-risk" youth and young adults. We continue our history of serving family members and friends who come to us through a web of recommendations via the grape-vine. This community web increasingly includes recent immigrants and coordinated activities with other community based organizations.

Today's African American residents, no matter where in the city they currently live, have participated with Booker T. services in the past and still come here. Many know the current staff. Generations of African Americans have been a part of the Booker T. Community.

Mission

The BTWCSC mission continues to be working for a healthy and vibrant community on many levels. We focus on reducing the many disparities that face African Americans, immigrants, young people and others in our community by being a forum for organizing and providing educational opportunities, health care advocacy, housing organizing and information, employment and job training, foster care advocacy and support, senior clubs, youth and family programs, a food pantry, after school and summer programs.

Vision

  • Serve as the cornerstone entity for workforce development efforts, building on a past history of successful job readiness programs and the current technology training programs - in coordination with Street Tech.
  • Continue to take the lead coordinating and supporting violence prevention and violence response efforts.
  • Replace our existing facility with a mixed use facility that will include mixed income housing and an updated community center, gymnasium and playground.
  • Develop a Youth Center in collaboration with Youth Radio, Florence Crittenton, First Place Fund for Youth and other service providers.
